As 2010 started I have had the opportunity to reflect upon last year and my choices. My mother's 67th birthday is today. She is a lady to be admired. She and my father have raised four children, two of whom graduated with bachelor degrees and two of whom graduated with associate's degrees. They have ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren who are their crowning glories. My father has Alzheimer's Disease and my mom is his caregiver.
Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed by my life, all I have to do is think about the challenges Mom and Dad face daily. I can no longer complain about the mundane things that I face in comparison.
Today I spent a few hours with two of my granddaughters who put it all in perspective for me. They had gone to a basketball game with me. They really didn't want to, but they wanted to spend time with me and I had already committed to going to the game. They talked during the whole game, but enjoyed spending time with Meemaw. "Meemaw, I love you," said one of them. "I love you, too Meemaw, " said the other. So, as this year starts, I will remember to enjoy life as it comes because I get to spend time with people I love (people who are a part of my family or people with whom I worship or people with whom I work).
